10th Theme_ Environments of Media (The Truman Show and Hits)

The Social Network

This film is about the environment of media because it details the creation of Facebook and this issues that filled the creation of this new social media site. This film shows the influence that social media has had on the most current generation. The Truman Show showed the effects of how the media can take over peoples lives without them realizing it and Hits explained how the hunger for fame could blind someone. The Social Network details how the struggle for success can be brought up through social media.

9th Theme_Environments of Simulacra (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Moon)

Big Fish

This movie is about environments in Simulacra because it details a fairytale life with the relationship between a father and son. The father would constantly make up exaggerated stories and led to the son not having a great deal of trust with his father. In the movie Moon, the astronaut was made into a clone which is completely fantasy and the clone eventually realizes his fate. The unruliness of these films leads to their similarities in this genre of film.

8th theme_Extraterrestrial Environments (Europa Report and Monsters)

E.T. The Extraterrestrial

This movie perfectly depicts the extraterrestrial environments that were discussed in class. ET is about a an Alien who gets left behind from his ship and is stuck on earth and attempts to adapt to human life. In the film, humans somewhat adopt ET and introduce him to aspects of human life and hide him for the government so that he is not taken against his will ad try everything in their power to get him back to his home in space. This film is far different from the others because the other films portray aliens in a more negative light while in ET they portray aliens as very friendly and humanize them.

7th theme_Environments in the Future (Snowpiercer and Never Let Me Go)

The Day After Tomorrow

This film is very similar to Snowpiercer in relation to it's theme of the environments of the future. This film details how a climate shift in Antartica led to causing a new Ice Age in the U.S. Snow piercer had a similar plot in which there was a new Ice Age and the humans needed to deal with the results of it. Never Let Me Go was different in the sense that it discussed the futuristic aspects pertaining to healthcare. The Day After Tomorrow follows this futuristic environment because it shows how humans must adapt and deal with how their environments change and how they adjust to it, particularly if the changes are environmental.

6th theme_Protecting the Environment (Night Moves and Mountain Patrol)

Fern Gully: The Last Rainforrest

This film is about protecting the environment. Although it is a child's film it discusses the importance of saving the environment. In the film the main characters are fairies that live in the rainforest an are trying to protect their home because it is about to be urbanized and bulldozers are coming in to destroy where they live. Throughout the film the characters fight to save their rainforest which is similar to night moves because they fight for the environment and leaving it unchanged at all costs. In Fern Gully, they don't take as much of an aggressive tone as Night Moves but emphasis nonetheless the importance of saving the environment.

5th theme_Spiritual Environment (Princess Mononoke and Agora)

The Da Vinci Code

This movie is about spiritual environments because it emphasis how certain events can alter someones religious beliefs. This is very similar to the film Agora how the Pagans thought differently from the Christians and were then ostracized. The Da Vinci Code brought up the topic of spirituality because it brought up drama within the Catholic Church that Mary Magdalene and Jesus were married and produced a daughter. This is similar Agora because in the film the Da Vinci Code people fought to protect this secret, or in other cases to protect, similar to Agora when they saved all of their scrolls.

4th theme_Animals in our Environment (White God and Project Nim)

Blackfish

Blackfish is a movie about animals in our environment because it depicts how the nature of how isolating animals for entertainment of the public is detrimental to them. This film is about a killer whale who was isolated and put into small cramped places while it was at sea life theme parks. Ultimately the whale ends up at Sea World in Orlando and kills a trainer and this stuns the public. The poor treatment and abuse that the whale dealt with throughout its life in captivity was the ultimate clue to why it's behavior led to it killing a trainer. This movie is similar to White God because the animal is isolated and treated poorly, just like when the dog was kidnapped and given drugs to become aggressive, led to violent and lethal behaviors.
